Angels in America - Millenium Approaches

Tonight is the last night for this wonderful show in Montreal! All proceeds from this show go towards AIDS research.

I worked with the student designers last semester to finalize their paper designs. Amy Keith took over  as design supervisor this semester for the realization of the project - and the results are fantastic! I'm so very proud of the students and their wonderful work under the direction of the very talented Amanda Kellock. - and of course there is also some phenomenal acting on this show!

Go see it tonight at 8pm!

Sound Asleep - Broadcast on CBC and at Cannes

Sound Asleep was broadcast last week on the CBC's Canadian Reflections. The upload quality seems a bit poor, but it can be seen here.  I was the production designer on this short film.  Written and directed by Aisling Chin-Yee, it was produced by Prospector Films.

Aisling also went to Cannes with the film this spring as part of Telefilm's "Not Short on Talent" delegation at the 2014 Marche du Cannes!

I'm excited to share this beautiful film with everyone!

ATTAWAPISKAT IS NO EXCEPTION

Next Thursday Attawapiskat is no Exception opens at Concordia's DB Clarke theatre.
This show has been a fully collaborate year-long process.  We started with a research course centred around first nation issues while working with the design students to create an environment within which the play could live.  Cree playwright Floyd Favel wrote the script inspired by the work brought forth by the students.  Under the direction of Ursula Neuerburg-Denzer this play has become a poignant reflection on a variety of issues that are plaguing our first nation communities.  The Attawapiskat community has been at the forefront of the news but, as the title suggests, Attawapiskat is one of many.  Our story looks towards the severing of family, community and culture due to abuses including relocation, residential schools, failed land claims, and the highway of tears with the injustices surrounding missing and murdered women.
This story is one which will stay with me for a long time and I have been thrilled to be involved as design supervisor guiding the student designers through the process.  I hope this show is seen by many and that the script will continue to grow through subsequent productions.

VICE Magazine: TreePunk

Our TreePunk photoshoot is up this week on Vice.  I'm pretty happy with the results.  I worked on the backdrops/set with the wonderful photographers Keith Race & Jon Estwards as well as the talented stylist Laura Marlin.  My man, Rafael Katigbak was the producer, it was a fun shoot!

Sound Asleep

Sound Asleep is premiering at the Cinématique Québécoise tomorrow at 9.45pm!

It was a pleasure working as production designer on this short written and directed by the talented  Aisling Chin-Yee.

Sound Asleep is a moving story based on Aisling's family experience of loosing their young baby.  It is heart wrenching but inspiringly uplifting as the event is seen through the eyes of his imaginative 6 year old brother.

La Valeur Des Choses

I have been working with Jacques Poulin-Denis and Grand Poney on their new show, La Valeur des Choses.  Themes reflected in this dance piece centre around the artificial value attributed to various aspects of our lives and brings to question what we hold valuable.  It was a pleasure working with this team, I am quite moved by their performance and the beautiful music accompaniment by Francis D'Octobre.

Here is a great write-up in the Gazette.
The opening was last night, it was a great show!  It runs until this Saturday, Jan 25th.
